Community Campaign - 2010

The Fort Dodge Community Foundation and United Way has taken action to identify the things that matter most in our community and ensure that the personal investments we make in the United Way campaign will have the greatest impact on those needs. This year's community campaign will support three important areas. "Our Community - Our Future" is this year's campaign theme because our support is truly about "community." In these tough economic times, it is critical that we come together as a community and support this year's campaign. We know the needs will be high. We also know the future is in our hands.

Our campaign goal is $350,000. We hope we can attain this goal and even surpass it so we can have an even greater impact. Together, we can help the Fort Dodge area become a vital and prosperous place to live, work and raise our families.

Citizens are encouraged to support the Community Campaign with a charitable donation. Be it $100, $500 or even a $1,000, every dollar helps, and when combined with contributions from hundreds of other citizens, the impact can be enormous. Every donation is an investment in our community, and it isn't just a financial gift; it is a gift of encouragement that will help make a real difference in our community.

The United Way Community Fund is an annual fund that addresses numerous needs throughout the greater Fort Dodge and Webster County area. It is an ideal way for citizens to give back to their community to support human services, youth development, poverty solutions, and a wide range of community betterment projects and initiatives. This fund is flexible and responsive to our community's needs today.

Together, we can help Fort Dodge and Webster County become a vital and prosperous place where people will want to live, work, play and raise their families. Donations to the Community Campaign support important programs, services and initiatives that benefit the public good and improve the quality of life of citizens, families and youth in Fort Dodge, Webster County and North Central Iowa.

The funds from the Community Campaign will be used to support:

Human Services
Human services includes projects, programs or services that contribute to the social well being of individuals, youth and families. Human service programs help people in need of assistance for the basic necessities of life. These programs and services are focused on helping improve the living conditions and standards of children, the economically disadvantaged, the physically disabled and the frail elderly. Human service programs also foster positive and healthy youth development and support programs that advance education and life-long learning.

Support for the Recently Unemployed
All of us know a friend, neighbor or relative who is recently unemployed due to no fault of their own. The Fort Dodge Community Foundation and United Way provides financial support for programs and services that are designed specifically to support these individuals and families during this very difficult time. It is our hope that this support will help sustain them until the economy turns around and jobs become available again.

Community Betterment
Community betterment is defined as the development of specific community areas and systems that improve the local community and make our community more enjoyable, appealing, safe and livable. This includes any activity, project or program that enhances the community and ultimately improves the quality of life for all residents. Projects could involve services to citizens, economic development, community beautification and improvements to parks, trails, green spaces, recreational facilities, the environment, and programs that advance recreation, entertainment, arts and culture.
